Homeless Persons in Ireland
A Special Census Report

In September this year, the CSO published a special Census report, Homeless persons in Ireland, detailing results from the Census taken on April 10th 2011.  Homeless persons were identified based on where they were on Census night with accommodation being identified in advance.  Prior to Census night, these properties were verified as providing shelter for homeless persons through contact with the proprietor or the relevant agency subsequent to the field operation.

Changes to Central Placement Service for Homeless Persons
Creating greater stability for individuals

From Monday 22nd October, access to the Central Placement Service (CPS) has changed. The change to CPS is the next step in the implementation of the Pathway to Home model which is to ensure greater stability for individuals who are experiencing homelessness.

The Business Plan of the Dublin Joint Homelessness Consultative Forum for 2012 sets out the key targets and objectives to be achieved this year. During the period of the Homeless Action Plan, there is an agreed Business Plan which sets out our key targets and objectives. Our vison and strategic aims align with national strategy which is currently under review by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.

Cold Weather Strategy
November - March

The Cold Weather Initiative will be in place from Tuesday 5th November to the end of March 2013. This initiative seeks to provide an emergency humanitarian response to the needs of persons who may be sleeping rough during cold weather.
