Rapid Build Homes come in under budget at 180,000 each

Dublin City Council have now confirmed that the agreed final account with Western Building System’s Ltd for the construction of 22 high quality three bed Rapid Build homes at Baile na Laochra, Poppintree, Ballymun has now concluded.  The agreed sum is significantly under budget at €180,000 per house. The entire site is now fully serviced with infrastructure, utilities and ESB sub section, which will allow for a significant benefit to the future provision of 50 affordable homes on the remainder of the site, by Ó Cualann Co-housing Alliance GLC.

Dublin City Council’s Homeless Central Placement Service (CPS) began placing families in the new units in April 2016. The 22 rapid build homes are two-storey units, providing temporary accommodation for families who were experiencing homelessness, and who were placed in unsustainable accommodation in commercial hotels, on an emergency basis.

A further 131 units will be built this year in Drimnagh, Finglas, Belcamp and Cherry Orchard. The other 350 units will be built by the other three Dublin Local Authorities. For further information about the Rapid Build programme, please see here
